Overview

Learning a second language is now becoming a vital part of the basic preparation for an increasing number of careers and is the key to unlocking other cultures.  The World Language department provides programs of study that prepare our student population to understand another culture, which helps to broaden perspectives, open minds and empower them to succeed and take part as responsible citizens in the world.

The demand for language skills continues to grow as governments, businesses and organizations build relationships that are increasingly international.  The "5 C's" (Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, Communities) are the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) world-readiness standards.  The World Language program emphasizes these standards to help students become globally cultured, diversity-sensitive individuals ready to thrive in today's increasingly interdependent world community.
