Phonics (letters and sounds)
What is Phonics?
Phonics is the next step in learning to read process. It requires one to attach a letter to its sound to make words. Students learn the different sounds a letter may make based on its position in a word or syllable. There are 26 letters (grapheme) in the alphabet but 44 phonemes (sounds). Learning how to put letters and sounds together is important to help a child read, spell, and write.
