Superintendent's Message
Choose Cranston: Investing in Our Schools, Investing in Our City
As we mark National Public Schools Week and move into the heart of winter, it is an opportunity to reflect on what makes Cranston Public Schools such an important part of our community.
Every day, families choose Cranston.
They choose award-winning Career and Technical Education programs at our three high schools.
They choose Advanced Placement and honors coursework.
They choose places for their children to flourish and prepare themselves for life after high school.
They choose robust programs in the arts.
They choose strong support for students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
They choose competitive middle and high school athletics, extracurricular opportunities, and before- and after-school care.
They choose caring school communities.
They choose opportunities.
Cranston Public Schools is more than a collection of buildings. It is an investment in the future of our city. Strong public schools protect property values, attract new families, and prepare the next generation of leaders, workers, and citizens. When new state-of-the-art schools are built, home values and the desirability to reside in Cranston increases. A vibrant and well-respected school system is Cranston’s biggest economic achievement.
As we enter budget season, it is important to understand how enrollment choices and funding decisions directly impact our district. Each year, Cranston taxpayers fund millions of dollars in out-of-district tuition and transportation for students who choose to attend schools outside our system. These costs affect the resources available for facility improvements, programming enhancements, and long-term planning.
When families choose Cranston Public Schools, they strengthen not only their child’s educational experience, but the entire community.
This winter, I encourage families to learn more about the programs, pathways, and supports available in our district. Our commitment remains clear: to provide a high-quality, innovative, and inclusive education for every student we serve.
I encourage you to choose Cranston.
Sincerely,
Jeannine Nota-Masse
