November 10, 2023
Dear parents and guardians,
This weekend we honor our veterans who have served our country, and we are very proud of the celebrations that take place within our school communities such as the ones at Glen Hills Elementary School on November 8, and the Park View Middle School Veterans Day 5K walk/run, which will be held tomorrow. There is still time to sign up for this beloved community event here. We hope to see everyone there! As a reminder, there is no school on Monday, November 13, in observance of Veterans Day, per the statewide calendar.

Remember that there are academic, attendance, and behavioral expectations that are upheld all throughout the school year in order to be able to participate in any of the special events taking place. We do not ever want anyone to miss out!
- Security Protocols: Although we cannot disclose the specific details of our security measures to the public, we cannot emphasize enough how important it is for our families to embrace and follow our security protocols every day, all year long, even if you may think they are inconvenient to you or to those picking up your children. We have them available here for you to read here. Familiarize yourself with our procedures, be ready to follow them, and be sure that your emergency care cards are up to date and accurate. Make sure that anyone listed as being allowed to pick up your children on your emergency care card is ready to follow them as well. Without exception, no one will be allowed to pick up a child if they are not listed on the emergency care card.

Congratulations to: the Gladstone school community who kicked off their furniture design Project Based Learning project this week. Students at both Gladstone at Barrows and Gladstone at Waterman worked with design architects from Fielding-International to begin the process of designing furniture for their new school. The students experienced all different types of furniture during their workshops on Monday and and spoke about the pros and cons of the pieces, as well as the things they need to consider when designing furniture. They will work on the project from now through the middle of December, at which point several designs will be chosen for a "Shark Tank" pitch session. Ultimately, one piece will be chosen and submitted to a furniture company for design and will be used in the new Gladstone Elementary School. See some photos from Monday's sessions with the Gladstone at Barrows students here.
Congratulations to: the eighth-grade students in Ann Marie Torres' classes at Park View Middle School who created cards and letters for Operation Cheer. Are you smarter than a.....
Correct answer: D. an inherited trait.
Here's why: the word innate means "existing at birth." In the context of the sentence, it can easily be determined that the word innate means something other than "experiences after birth", so it must mean "existing at birth."
