MTSS

MTSS, or Multi-Tiered System of Supports, is a framework used in Cranston to support the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of all students.   From a family perspective, it means the school is taking a proactive and systematic approach to ensure your child has the help they need to succeed. If your child is struggling academically, social-emotionally, or behaviorally, MTSS ensures they get tailored support. Here’s a breakdown of what it might look like:
Teamwork
A collaborative approach with family and school personnel to identify the support your child might need.  Together, we work towards a common goal for your child.
Curriculum Design
CPS uses high quality curriculum that is reflective of Rhode Island's Common Core State Standards.  We use effective, evidence based strategies to help address your child's need.
School & Community Collaboration
As needed, MTSS involves collaboration between school and community partners.  This connection allows for a holistic approach to support you and your child.
Family Partnership
Families are a critical piece that helps schools understand their child.  Families and schools work together as a team to support your child’s learning, behavior, and well-being. It’s about making sure you, as a parent or caregiver, are included, informed, and empowered to help your child succeed.
Response to Intervention (RtI)
RtI is a system designed to help your child get the help they need to succeed in an identified area your child is struggling with.  It is a step-by-step approach where teachers closely monitor how your child is doing within the intervention.  Teachers and staff use assessments, observations, and progress monitoring to review what’s working and adjust as needed.
Positive Behavior Intervention & Support (PBIS)
PBIS focuses on behaviors and expectations in our school community.
Data-Based Decision Making
Data-based decision making is when teachers and administration review student data gathered through assessments (and observations) to guide and improve instructional practices, student outcomes, and classroom management. As a result, your child's teacher is able to make informed decisions rather than relying on instinct or guesswork.
Progress Monitoring
Progress monitoring means providing evidence based interventions and strategies to determine the effectiveness towards the intervention goal.
Professional Development (PD)
PD provides learning opportunities and training for our staff to enhance their skills, knowledge, and effectiveness in the classroom. It focuses on improving teaching practices by keeping educators updated on the latest educational changes (regulations), tools, and methods that will help them address the diverse needs of their students.
