Stadium School History

Stadium School was built in 1953 on the site of the Hart family home. The home was moved to a different location on Crescent Avenue. The school is located in an area that was formerly an auto racing track (the first paved track in the U.S.A.) It is because of the track, that many of the streets surrounding the school follow a rounded path and are named after cars (examples: Cadillac Avenue, Fiat Avenue, Packard Street, and Flint Avenue). Before being an auto racing track, the area was a horse racing park owned by the Sprague family of the Sprague mansion. It is not unusual for children to still find horseshoes or horseshoe spikes in their yards.
The playground area of Stadium School used to be a huge hill called "The Camel's Hump". This hill provided the area children with a wonderful place to go sledding.
