Goals and Priorities for Stadium School
Stadium Elementary School begins a new year with enthusiasm and continued high expectations. As a school, we have adopted a Guided Reading approach. The classroom teacher and the reading consultant determine each child’s individual reading level. The children work in groups with texts that are written at their instructional level along with lessons on word attack skills and writing. Students’ written work is maintained in portfolios and they evaluate their own writing according to the state writing rubrics.
Stadium School continues to teach our students according to the recognized state and national standards. Grade Level Expectations or GLEs are now the benchmarks we use to measure the achievement levels of our students specific to particular grade level in Reading, Writing, and Math.
Stadium School teachers in grades 3, 4, and 5 learned more about the GLEs and compared the learning expectations from grade to grade. With this knowledge, each teacher will be ready to teach her new class knowing more about what each student needs to know in preparation for the new state NECAP testing that begins in October.
Teachers spent some time this summer in writing action plans to implement our learning and social goals for the school. They’ve identified strategies and ideas to develop our students’ vocabulary, comprehension, and math concept skills. In January, we will kick off our annual Reading Incentive Program. Our themes vary each year, but this multi- week activity provides opportunities for students to achieve grade level reading and writing expectations with parents’ participation.
As a school, we will continue our work with the new modules of our math program called Investigations. Each year, the teachers learn three new components of program. Students have many hands on activities that teach them the new way to think about number combinations, data, and geometry.
In response to our SALT parent survey and in keeping with the action steps of our school improvement plan, Stadium School will offer parents an opportunity to register children with our new after school daycare program called Kids Klub. Registration materials will be available at school in September.
Our parent organization, Stadium Partners in Education (S.P.I.E.) provides tremendous support for many school activities such as student planners, field trips, book fairs, after school programs, and cultural arts programs. We welcome parent involvement through volunteering to assist with many classroom activities and school-wide events.
Stadium School looks forward to the new school year and all the interesting opportunities we will have to grow in our learning.
