Crazy Eight’s Newsletter February 2012
In Science, we will begin with a study of Energy and how it is stored, transferred, and transformed but cannot be destroyed. The rest of the quarter will be spent studying how the motion of an object is affected by forces.
The Crazy Eight’s English class has begun the study of the novel The Giver – genre – Science Fiction. The end will result in a persuasive/analytical paper. Mini grammar units will continue.
In Social Studies, in January, we took a look at racism and prejudice in America over the years, as well as a brief intro to the atrocities of the Holocaust. As February comes, a big cause of those negative feelings stems from the way new immigrants were treated when they came to America. We will look at immigration then and now culminating with the students completing a “Who Am I?” photo story. Projects will be viewed February 13th to the 17th, and students have the chance to bring in healthy food that corresponds with their ethnicity. Bon Appétit!!!
In Math classes, the students in periods 2,3, and 6 have been working on solving equations. With that just finishing up, they will venture towards working in chapter 4, Factors and Fractions. At this time they will be working with my student teacher Michael Kerrigan. He will be here for 8 weeks till the end of March. The rules will be the same, and so will the respect that Mr. Kerrigan will receive.
The period 7 Algebra class is continuing to work off the skills of the concepts of slope, linear equations, and graphing by working on chapter 8. We will be doing work with Systems of Equations.
As the halfway point of the year has passed, please be reminded that you can access your student’s progress through i-parent with the password provided. Please contact the team with any concerns through email or through the Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Lisa Spirito.
