All About Us
The children in Mrs. Tetreault's class are enjoying getting to know more about each other. Our class of twentyis filled with both old friends and new ones!
The story book Chrysthanthumum, by Kevin Henkes helps us to begin our exploration into each of our names and how we got them. The children enjoy several activities where they are able to express a bit about their likes and dislikes. It helps us all to learn more about each of us as individuals along with the similiarities and differences between us as a group.
Each student creates an ALL ABOUT ME poster to share with their classmates. The children display wonderful creativity in the decorating of their project to make it special and unique to only them. They use a variety of photographs, stickers, drawings, stamps and quite a few art & craft supplies  to give their poster pizzazz!
Each child also completes a rhyme on their poster in which they expressed things they enjoyed doing with a special friend, something they liked, something they disliked and when or where they were born. Upon the completion of these posters, each student shares their creation with the class. The students love telling about themselves along with sharing about how their original poster is created. It is a wonderful experience for all of the children to both learn about their classmates and to see who had similiar interests!
After reading the storybook, My nose, your nose, by Melanie Walsh and discussing the similiarities and differences between all of our faces which make us unique and special, Each student also creates a 'Self Portrait'.
Various specifics are discussed regarding what components everyone's drawing should include yet how they could differ in color, shape or size. The children have a fantastic time developing these pictures. Some of the children really get into details as they make a paper-likeness of themselves.
