Mrs. Johnson's class worked with Mrs. Underwood's class to perform good deeds.  Our good deeds included letters sent to soldiers in Iraq. One of our district teachers' has a son who's in Iraq. He happened to go to our elementary school and I taught him when he was in first grade! Our whole school got involved in this project and helped his family get letters to each soldier in his platoon.
The second grade wrote and sent 100 valentines to the patients of St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. After our discussion about the patients and what they might be going through, the kids took off and they were so creative. They copied jokes, riddles and poems from library books and sent them on their valentines. We hope that the patients enjoyed them.
