Note from the President
We are nearly 3 months into school and can you believe the
holidays are nearly upon us. Where does the time go? November is the start to a
very busy time at Hope Highlands. The holiday season means giving to our school
community. We have started our collection drive for the Thanksgiving baskets
that are donated to local families complete with turkeys and all of the
fixings. The giving tree, coat drive and the “Toys for Tots” donation drives
will begin shortly after. The donation drives that Hope Highlands has sponsored
and supported throughout the years have become traditions. We definitely take
pride in all that we do for our community especially during the holiday season.
It is very important that our children know how important it is to give to
others in need. This year we have a special treat for you. Our students will
perform a holiday concert for their families and friends. The concert will be
held on 2 evenings: December 15th & 16th. More information will be coming
home regarding the concert over the next few weeks.
At our October meeting, our budget was passed unanimously.
The budget contained a plan to replace the deteriorating stage. I am pleased to
report that the work will begin mid-December and will be completed during the holiday
recess. Thank you again for your support in this project. We look forward to
showing off our new stage in the New Year. Our November meeting was a busy one.
We were joined by our school nurse, Mrs. Flynn, School committee member Janice
Ruggieri and house majority leader Nick Mattiello. I would like to thank them
for taking the time out of their busy evenings to spend it with us and inform
us in the process. Mr. Mattiello presented us with a grant check of $3000.00.
This money was obtained for the purpose of purchasing 2 AED’s for our school.
We are very thankful to Mr. Mattiello for his hard work in securing this grant
for Hope Highlands and for his dedication to our community. In the spring we
will offer our 2nd annual CPR/AED certification class. We hope you will join us
for this very important class. Thank you to all Committee chairs for your hard
work and dedication. We are very lucky to have such a strong and caring PTO.
A special thank you to Milissa DeFusco & Michelle
Eastman for their hard work in planning and executing an outstanding family
fall festival. It was a wonderful evening for our student & their families.
Everyone had a blast! A thank you goes out to Mrs. Chateauneuf, Ms. Iacovone
& Mrs. Signore for volunteering their time at the event. Your participation
and support made the evening that much more special. I’d also like to thank my
executive board for all of your hard work. This board not only fulfills their
position responsibilities, but they are also involved in helping other committee
chairs, volunteering in their child’s classroom, school projects, meetings,
research and many late nights on the computer. I am truly proud to be part of
this PTO and to serve with such an outstanding board. It is never too late to
join the PTO or to get involved. The holiday season is one of the busiest times
for the PTO and an ideal time to get involved. There are many ways to get
involved. You will certainly put a smile on a child’s face and I guarantee you
will leave with a smile. Involvement is rewarding and you’ll be a better person
for it.
I hope to see you at our next PTO meeting January 10th at
7:00pm in the school library. Have a safe & wonderful holiday season!
Sincerely,
Dawn
