 Dear Parents/Guardians,

This year is a most important one as they prepare for middle school.  We expect the children will be respectful of faculty, staff, peers and themselves.  In addition, they are to be responsible not only for academic achievement but behavior as well.   While the 6th grade teachers do plan together, keep in mind individual classrooms may have varying procedures.

We are using the Reading Street series which contains a collection of short stories and expository text relating to our science and social studies curriculum.  In addition, we will be reading trade books covering a range of themes while applying the skills learned in Reading Street.

Earth, environmental, and physical science will be covered using different text books for each area.  In social studies we will learn about ancient civilizations using the textbook and working cooperatively on projects.

The sixth grade is using the Glencoe math series which focuses on all four strands of mathematics; numbers & operation, data, statistics & probability, geometry & measurement, functions & algebra.
