2009-2010
Helpful
Hints and Reminders
·
In
3rd Grade, homework assignments should not exceed 30 minutes. If your child takes more time, you may want
to contact me so we can discuss possible reasons.
·
Unfinished work is to be completed at home and is not considered “homework.” It is work
that was assigned during the school day that your child was not able to
complete in the time given.
·
If
homework is not returned when it is
due (usually the next day), he/she can expect to lose recess so that it can be completed. If it is left at home,
he/she can still expect to lose recess, as it is his/her responsibility to
bring it back to school.
·
When
your child is absent, he/she is allowed one week to return made-up assignments.
·
If
your child is sick and you would like to request
homework, please do so first thing
in the morning when calling your child in sick. Homework requests need to
be made no later than 10:30 so that
work and other materials can be gathered.
·
If
your family is planning an “unscheduled” vacation, please do not request work in advance. School policy requires
teachers to leave any missed work on your child’s desk, to be completed upon
his/her return.
·
If
you feel as though we need to meet to discuss your child’s progress,
conferences may be scheduled from 8:40 – 9:00AM or 3:00 – 3:20 PM.
·
Please
remember to send your child with a “work friendly” morning snack, as our lunch
in not until 12:15PM.
·
A
friendly reminder that all written work in third grade is expected to be done
in cursive (with the exception of Math). If you notice your child is having
difficulty with handwriting, I would encourage you to visit the

Chaperones
are needed for just about every field trip we go on. Chaperones do not pay when asked to accompany the class. There may
be times when there is an overwhelming response to a field trip and “extra”
chaperones will be allowed. Those “extra” chaperones may be asked to pay a fee
so that the cost is not passed on to the children.
2nd Quarter Curriculum

a “how to.” Grammar skills include
common and proper nouns, singular and plural nouns, irregular plural, and
singular and possessive nouns.
Math:
Unit 2 focuses on surveys and line plots. The students will collect,
represent, and interpret data.
Social Studies:
The focus will be how landforms and resources shaped culture and
communities.
Science:
This quarter will be spent studying the Sun, Moon, and Earth. We will
compare the three and learn about the motions of the Earth and the Moon.
