Welcome to First Grade!

 

We would like to welcome you all as we begin the 2010-2011 school year.  We have many fun activities planned and know that it is going to be an exciting year!

To begin the year, we will be reviewing colors.  The children are being asked to wear a certain color each day.  Please refer to the following calendar for the color of the day:

 

Tuesday, August 31                        Red

Wednesday, September 1               Yellow

Thursday, September 2                   Green

Friday, September 3                        Blue

 

Monday, September 6                     No School: Labor Day

Tuesday, September 7                    Orange

Wednesday, September 8               Black

Thursday, September 9                   No School:  Rosh Hashanah

Friday, September 10                      No School:  Rosh Hashanah

 

Monday, September 13                   Red, White, and Blue

Tuesday, September 14                  No School:  Primary Day

Wednesday, September 15             Purple

Thursday, September 16                 White

Friday, September 17                      Pink

 

Monday, September 20                   Brown

 

 

Open House is scheduled for Monday, September 13 at 7:00.  We look forward to meeting you all!    

 

 

Some supplies your child will need in first grade are:

 - Backpack (labeled with name)

- Lunchbox (labeled with name)

- Small Plastic Pencil Box (5 X 8 rectangle)

- Glue Sticks

- Pencils

- Eraser

- Pencil Sharpener (that holds the shavings)

- Colored Pencils or Crayons (Twistables are great as they don’t break!)

- Kleenex

- Clorox Wipes (or similar brand)

- Purell

- 2, 2-pocket folders

- 1 Composition Notebook ( the wide ruled one that has a hard cardboard cover with

side stitched binding)

- 1 highlighter

Homework Policy:

-                       Homework will go home in the homework bag on Mondays.

-                       Please return the bag with the completed homework by Friday each week.

-                       Use the daily folder for notes/messages…(Not the bag)

-                       Homework should take between 10 – 20 minutes.  If your child is struggling with the homework, please let the teacher know.

-                       Each night, your child should also read to you and practice weekly spelling words.

-                       There will be a spelling test every Friday.
