Math Grade Level Expectations

 

Number and Operations

·        Knows numbers 0 – 12 and how much a number is worth (value)

·        Understands one-half (1/2) as “fair share”

·        Demonstrates 1-1 correspondence with numbers, ex. 9 – shows 9 fingers or grabs nine cubes

·        Orders and compares numbers to each other from 0 - 20

·        Connects numbers orally and written

·        Adds and subtracts facts from 0 – 10, ex. 5 – 3 = 2, 6 + 4 = 10

·        Knows names of coins and its value (penny 1¢, nickel 5¢, dime 10¢)

·        Mentally adds and subtracts one more or one less than a number, ex. 6: 1 more 7; 1 less 5

·        Estimates number of objects up to 20

 

Geometry and Measurement

·        Identifies and names triangles, squares, rectangles, rhombi, trapezoids and hexagons

·        Sort shapes into groups by color, size, and shape

·        Uses words longer and shorter to describe the length of an object; taller and shorter to describe height of an object; heavier and lighter to describe the weight of an object; warmer or cooler to describe the temperature; more or less to describe capacity of an object

·        Knows information on a calendar: days of the week, yesterday, today, tomorrow, date

·        Use position words to tell where something is: top of, next to, on the bottom, underneath, beside, in front

 

Functions and Algebra

·        Identifies and extends patterns to the next one, two, or three elements; ex. A B B A B B A B B ___, ___, ___

·        Patterns can be shapes, sounds, movements, colors, or letters

 

Data, Statistics, and Probability

·        Interprets models and tally charts to answer questions or draw conclusions

·        Looks at the models and tally charts to determine more, less, or equal
