The environment in our classroom is safe, nurturing, friendly and beneficial to learning. Students are always expected to do their….. BEST!!

Our year at a glance…….

Your child will be expected to read and write to learn across the curriculum.  In fourth grade the preparation for transitioning to middle school begins.  Your child will begin using subject notebooks to strengthen organizational and study skills.

*Reading*

We will be working from the reading series, “Reading Street.”  It’s a wonderful researched-based approach to reading instruction.

Writing assignments will be linked to our reading program.  Therefore, making the task of writing meaningful and connected to our lives and the literature.

An emphasis will be placed on fluency, vocabulary building and comprehension.

Students must read 25 grade level books

I will conference with students about the books they have read and they will keep a record of what they have read.

*Investigations*

The Investigations curriculum embodies a new approach based on years of research about how children learn mathematics.  Sets of units are utilized offering 2-8 weeks of work.  These units of study are presented through investigations that involve students in the inquiry of major mathematical ideas.

Problem solving strategies will be reinforced, along with critical thinking skills.
