Title I Parent Information

Dear Parent/Guardian:

As part of the “No Child Left Behind Act” 2001, I am pleased to inform you that your school again qualifies for supplementary Federal Title I funding to help all students achieve.  A major goal of this act is to ensure “highly qualified” teachers for all students.

Cranston Public Schools has achieved this goal by requiring all teachers to be State Certified for the grade level and subjects in which the teacher is providing instruction. We are therefore also in compliance with Rhode Island General Law 16-11-1 which requires “appropriate teaching/administrative certificates for all professionals employed in public schools.” All of our teachers hold a bachelor’s degree and many have also earned a master’s degree or 30 graduate credits beyond their bachelor’s degree.

Teacher’s assistants (paraprofessionals) are required to attain an associate’s degree or to complete two years of college if they were hired after 2002. In other cases, they must pass a rigorous State test. All teacher assistants employed in Cranston have met these standards.

Throughout the school year, we will continue to provide you with important information about this law and your child’s education. You have the right to know the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher(s) or whether paraprofessionals provide service to a child, and if so, their qualifications. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 270-8384.

Sincerely,
