The Rhode Island Educator Extern Program provides a unique
professional development opportunity for educators, a work-based
experience in industry offering first-hand learning about career
pathways and employability skills. The knowledge gained by
educators as externs can affect improvement in curriculum,
instruction and assessment by making them more contextual for
students.
Participation and Credit
The Rhode Island Extern Program has
a minimum commitment of 75 hours.
15 hours - Career Workshops
and Partnership Development (Training and Consultation)
45 hours- Site-Based Work
Experience, Reflection and
Research (Externship)
15 hours- Portfolio
Completion including Integrated Lesson Plan based on Externship
(product)
The Rhode Island Educator Extern
Program offers participants two options for professional or academic
credit:
·Five
professional development credits from the Rhode Island Department of
Education
·Three
graduate credits from Rhode Island College in
Education Studies, Curriculum
580 (registration and tuition
expected to be $150.00, are
required before June 1, 2004)
