Dear Hugh B. Bain Parents/Guardians/Students:

Welcome to the 2008-09 school year at Hugh B. Bain Middle School. Bain is a GREAT Place. At Bain, a dedicated faculty and staff of approximately 70 adults serve a diverse population of approximately five hundred students in grades seven and eight. Our middle school has been designated as “High Performing” but “in caution” in one Math sub-category by the RI Department of Education. It is one of my personal goals to prove that Hugh B. Bain Middle School is the model middle school for the State of Rhode Island.

Bain is a unique community school where tradition is highly valued and celebrated. Many of our students have had parents and grandparents who have attended Bain. Many of our faculty members and staff are also former students of Bain who have come back to serve their community. We have a dedicated PTB (Parents and Teachers of Bain) who organizes and runs many important events in our school. The devotion and loyalty to Bain is also demonstrated in the form of an alumni association. The alumni association has and will continue to celebrate alumni reunions at Bain.

The School Improvement Team has evolved over the past four years into a highly functioning organization that includes teachers, parents, alumni and students. One hundred percent of Bain teachers participate in the school improvement process. Each year the School Improvement Team has set its goals based on data analysis self-study, and personal and public accountability. This year the school improvement team will be concentrating on our SALT visit by the RI Department of Education in early Spring. We are committed to a long-term continuous improvement model that will incorporate reform strategies that are proven to be effective.
Please visit our web page at www.cpsed.net/bainhome for current Bain updates and information.

It is our hope that you will share our vision and join our mission for Bain. We welcome any help. Please feel free to call, come in, and participate. Our combined commitment will ensure that all Bain students are reaching high standards, and that no child will be left behind.
Sincerely,
Thomas A. Barbieri
