Mission:  The mission of Hugh B. Bain Middle School is to create an educational environment that prepares students to become life-long learners, responsible citizens, and productive workers.

Core Values:

bulletAll students can learn and be successful.
bulletStudents, teachers, parents, and community members are all stakeholders in the Bain Educational Community.

The faculty and staff at Hugh B. Bain Middle School are committed to continue to create the conditions that bring each student to full academic potential by providing a high-quality education that produces capable and productive citizens for the 21st Century. We collaborated to develop a clear, shared vision of the school characteristics that we believe are essential to accomplishing this task.

Recent New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) report is that Hugh B. Bain School needs to show improvement in the areas of: writing, reading, and mathematics at all grade levels.

bullet

In the area of reading, 71% of beginning 7th grade students scored at the proficient level, while 9% scored significantly below proficient.

bullet

In the area of reading, 58% of beginning 8th grade students scored at the proficient level, while 15% scored significantly below proficient.

bullet

In the area of writing, 35% of beginning 8th grade students scored at the proficient level, while 17% scored significantly below proficient. In the area of mathematics, 39% of beginning 7th grade students scored at the proficient level, while 32% scored significantly below proficient.

bullet

In the area of mathematics, 35% of beginning 8th grade students scored at the proficient level, while 42% scored significantly below proficient.

As a result, the school improvement team created a detailed action plan to increase the percent of students who are proficient test scores by at least 10% in each area:

  1. Reading—Increasing NECAP test scores from 71% to 78% in 7th grade and from 58% to 66% in 8th grade.
  2. Writing—Increasing NECAP test scores from 35% to 50% in 8th grade.
  3. Math – Increasing NECAP test scores from 39% to 52% in 7th grade and from 35% to 39% in 8th grade.
  4. School Climate – Increasing present score of 3.4 to 4.0 on the Student’s Salt Survey section: Overall Score/Perceived Positive School Climate

These areas are imperative to the continued success of Hugh B. Bain Middle School.  Through the implementation of highly effective initiatives and currently successful practices, we will achieve our vision by showing continued growth and improvement on NECAP testing while building a positive and active school community.
